Tall Girls Back to School Success Tips

Can you believe it’s September already? I’m a little in my feelings because our tall girl summer is almost over. With that being said, we also know the end of summer means it’s back to school time! Some of us adults may be happy about this, LOL; however, some of our little ones and teenagers may be struggling with the thought of going back to school. Join me as my guest this month shares tips for tall girls to have a great school year.

“The more you try to fit in, the more you’ll stand out. Always be yourself.”

- Monique Nixon

In today’s episode, I am so ecstatic to be talking with our guest and fellow Height Goddess, Monique Nixon. Monique is an experienced mental health counselor currently working in crisis intervention and suicide prevention. She is such a warm and compassionate person who loves to help others grow, heal, and become the best possible version of themselves. Monique is also fully committed to educating and informing others in hopes to end the stigma against mental illness, especially in the African American community. She believes, “It’s okay not to be okay.”

Although I am not a parent, I do have a niece and nephews that I love dearly. This episode helped me in so many ways because I am an avid believer that it takes a village to raise a child.

In this episode we discussed:

  • Why limiting the use of social media is necessary to protect your mental health
  • How to listen and talk to your students about their thoughts and feelings
  • How to access community resources to help not only your child but you as a parent/guardian
  • Ways to motivate yourself via positive affirmations.

Resources: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline -1-800-273-TALK (8255) Confidential and free.

Positive Affirmations to repeat daily:

I am responsible for my own happiness.

I am allowed to say no to others and yes to myself.

I will not let others define who I am.

I have the right to change my mind.

I release the need to compare my life to others.

I am committed to be a better person today than I was yesterday.

I owe myself the love I give so freely to others.
