Have you ever had a certain day where something extreme happened, and you can never forget exactly where you were and what you were doing?  That day for me was October 5, 1999.  I was at the hair salon enjoying the time with my stylist when I received a phone call from my father telling me my mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer.  In an instant I was overcome with uncontrollable emotion thinking, "I can't lose her!"  After the initial shock we all were ready to be there for my mother, supporting her and doing whatever it took to make sure she was OK.  Like many women who are diagnosed with breast cancer, my mother showed tremendous strength and her outlook on life was amazing. After months of chemotherapy and radiation my mom was cancer free.

So the story goes, 6 month check-ups in the beginning and then annual check-ups. Everything was normal. I would always pray that my mom would stay cancer free and I would hold my breath whenever it was time for her check-ups. 10 years to the date I received that phone call. The phone call I had prayed to never receive again. The breast cancer had come back in the other breast, and again I remember exactly what I was doing: leaving the photographer's studio after reviewing the photos for the launch of HEIGHT GODDESS.  It was like I was reliving October 5, 1999 all over again! I thought, "If I feel this way I can only imagine how my mom was feeling." And just like before, after the initial shock wore off our family was ready to help my mother as best we could, to fight through this. I am so very happy to say that my mother completed her radiation and chemotherapy and is cancer free!! 

My mother is my hero, she's said many times that family and friends were a big part in keeping her spirits up and positive outlook. There are many women being treated for breast cancer who may not have the support we were able to give me mother.  With that being said, we're donating to The Pink Daisy Project. The Pink Daisy Project helps young women cope with the hardships of breast cancer treatment by providing care and comfort.
